5 Easy Ways to Style Wooden Serveware for Festive Dinners

Festive season means full tables, extra guests and lots of food. Wooden serveware brings a natural warmth to the table that steel and glass can’t — and it photographs beautifully too. Here are five easy ways to style it, no designer needed.

1. Build a grazing board

A large wooden platter is the easiest centrepiece you can make. Arrange dry fruits, mithai, namkeen, cut fruit and a small bowl of chutney in little clusters. Fill the gaps with mint leaves or rose petals. Guests love picking from it while they chat, and it looks generous even with simple snacks.

Styling tip: Place taller items (a small bowl or glass) towards the back and flat items in front, so everything is visible.

2. Layer trays at different heights

Flat tables look busy and crowded. Instead, place a serving tray on top of a small wooden stand or an upturned bowl to create a second level. Put desserts or drinks on the raised tray and main dishes below. Height instantly makes the table feel planned.

3. Mix wood with brass and white

Wood pairs beautifully with brass diyas, white ceramic bowls and cotton napkins. Keep the palette simple — wood, white and a metallic touch — and the table will look elegant without trying too hard.

  • White plates on wooden chargers or coasters
  • Brass or copper glasses for drinks
  • A runner in an off-white or mustard tone

4. Serve sizzlers and starters on wood

A wooden sizzler base or pizza platter is perfect for paneer tikka, kebabs or pizza on party night. Food stays presentable from kitchen to table and guests can serve themselves. Just keep a cloth or mat underneath very hot plates to protect your table top.

5. Use small pieces as table décor

Not everything on the table needs to hold food. A set of wooden coasters, a small tray holding diyas and flowers, or a tissue holder by each end of the table adds finishing touches. Explore our home décor range for pieces that work as both décor and utility.

The best festive tables feel warm and lived-in, not perfect. Natural wood does half the work for you.

After the party

Once guests leave, wash your wooden pieces by hand with mild soap, dry them standing up and give them a light oiling before storing. Our wood care habits article has the full routine.
