Every OudArs piece begins its journey in Saharanpur, a city in western Uttar Pradesh that has been known for its woodcraft for generations. Walk through its older lanes and you will hear the sound of saws, chisels and sanding blocks coming from small family workshops. This is where our story — and your product’s story — starts.

A craft passed down through families

In many Saharanpur workshops, the craft is learnt at home. Skills like shaping, joining, carving and finishing are passed from one generation to the next, often by watching and practising for years. That experience shows in the details: the smooth curve of a tray handle, the snug fit of a box lid, the clean finish on an edge.

A machine can cut wood. It takes a craftsman to make it feel right in your hands.

How a piece is made

While every product is different, most of our pieces go through the same careful steps:

1. Selecting the wood — choosing seasoned timber with good grain and no major cracks.
2. Cutting and shaping — marking and cutting the basic shape, then refining it by hand.
3. Joining and detailing — fitting parts together, adding handles, compartments or carving.
4. Sanding — smoothing the surface in stages until it feels soft to touch.
5. Finishing — applying a suitable food-safe or protective finish to bring out the natural colour.
6. Quality check and packing — each piece is checked before it is wrapped and sent to you.

Why we chose handcrafted

We started OudArs because we believe Indian homes deserve products that are useful, beautiful and honest. Handcrafted wood lasts longer than most mass-made plastic items, feels warmer in everyday use and supports skilled artisans and their families. When you buy a spice box, a serving tray or a lifestyle accessory from us, you are part of keeping that craft alive.

Made for you, too

Because our pieces are made by hand, we can also create things just for you — a different size, a name engraved for a gift, or a design for your café or hotel. Tell us your idea on our Custom Order page, or reach us on WhatsApp at 9458829385.
